His connection to AI actually predates that career. In 1985–86, as a Research Associate at the University of Hawaiʻi's Computer Vision Lab, he researched textured image segmentation, applying 2D Fourier transforms and matched filter design to train image classifiers — published in SPIE's Proceedings on Artificial Intelligence in 1986. Nearly four decades later, he completed DeepLearning.AI's Deep Learning Specialization, then extended into generative AI and applied domains — current learning, not a credential frozen in time.
